Young people need to engage with employers and experience workplaces to raise their aspirations and broaden their post-16/18 horizons. We need your help to inspire young people, educate them on current pathways to work and advise them on what to expect in your sector.
Whether you have an hour to give or would like to work strategically with a school or college, employers and volunteers are key to everything we offer educators and young people. Our Cornerstone Employers, Enterprise Advisers and Industry Champions all play an active role in raising students’ aspirations and opening doors to new opportunities.

How can you get involved?
Are you looking to give back to your community and inspire the next generation? Your experience, skillset, and industry knowledge are vital resources for students. There are multiple ways you can get involved with Careers Hub:
Industry Champions
If you have spare time to volunteer on an ad hoc basis, you can support young people as an Industry Champion through activities including careers talks, mock interviews, careers fairs, workplace visits, and work experience.
Enterprise Advisers
If you can commit to at least one year to support a school or college, you can work with a Careers Leader in a school or college to review and develop their careers programme. Enterprise Advisers are an invaluable mix of business consultant, critical friend and mentor. This is a hugely rewarding opportunity to make a clear difference to the lives of young people in your community.
Cornerstone Employers
Are the Careers Hub’s flagship group of local businesses who improve outcomes for young people by working with us to boost world-class careers education in the region in a joined-up and supported way.
Industry Champions
You know more than you may realise about your industry sector – valuable information and insight you can share with students. The Industry Champions initiative was set up to help young people meet local employers and employees during their primary, secondary, and further education.

What will I be expected to do as an Industry Champion?
You can very much choose your level of engagement and can get involved in:
- Assembly talks

Enterprise Advisers
Enterprise Advisers form the foundation of our partnership approach to supporting schools and colleges to deliver careers education that truly prepares students for their best next steps.
Our amazing Enterprise Advisers volunteer their time and skills to advise and guide the
careers leaders in schools and colleges to build strong careers programmes to support all
young people. Enterprise Advisers reflect all sectors and industries; they are self-employed, business owners, and employees – and they are united by their drive to make a lasting impact
on future outcomes for students.
What are the benefits of volunteering as an Enterprise Adviser?
- Give back to your local community through your support for students;
- Develop a deeper understanding of education and the current challenges for careers provision;
- Use your experience and skills to inspire and inform educators and students;
- Become part of a local, regional and national network of Enterprise Advisers to meet new contacts and develop your own skills;
- Build your professional profile and reputation.
What will I be expected to do as an Enterprise Adviser?
- Meet with your matched Careers Leader and Enterprise Coordinator at least once a term, ideally twice, to review and plan the careers programme.
- Provide an invaluable ‘real-world’ perspective on how a school or college can improve their careers education.
- Share your knowledge of skills, pathways and sectors to support your Careers Leader develop a strategic careers plan aligned to the eight Gatsby Benchmarks.
- Draw on your network to engage more employers in the careers programme to broaden careers activities and opportunities for students.
- Support the school or college to ensure every student benefits from meaningful employer encounters and experiences of the workplace.
